A Patriot So True

He was a man
of the land,
He'd go out in the country
and talk to the people
See the jobs they do
He'd talk to them and listen
and feel their hardship too
He's Canada's friend,
and something he'd send
a message meant for you

Hear the call Tom left
Like a loon on the lake
And what his words say
About the land that we make
and the lesson that we take
Not just on Canada day

Keep the maple leaf high
And never let him die
In every thing you do
be a patriot, be a patriot, a patriot so true

He was a man,
of the land
He knew all of our country
All of the places
He didn't need a map
Down gravel roads or black top
With music he would go
He carried his guitar
Even when he was a star
Canada's heart and soul

Didn't go to the States
For the money he could make
Stayed north of the border
His home would never shift
His country was his gift
Deserved Canada's order

Keep the maple leaf high
And never let him die
In every thing you do
Be a patriot, be a patriot, a patriot so true

(bridge)
On a rickety plywood plank
He sang his heart and stomped away
the maple leaf for now,
for each and every day
no one loved it better,
one thing you can say
In every thing he'd do,
he was a patriot so true

He was a man
of the land
People across the country
Wanted to see him
Every now an then
He was like and old friend
You just want to talk to
For the stories he would tell
All the people would yell
He was the one to see

The CDs in the case
The records on the rack
For us, and for the future
The songs that we hear
The feeling of good cheer
Will echo on forever

Keep the maple leaf high
And never let him die
In every thing you do
Be a patriot, be a patriot, a patriot so true
